A publicação Igualdade de Género em Portugal 2009 pretende dar a conhecer a situação e a evolução no que se refere à igualdade entre mulheres e homens no nosso país.

Abrangendo informação quer legislativa quer estatística, nas múltiplas vertentes da sociedade, reflecte sobre os fenómenos de desigualdade que subsistem e que se repercutem no quotidiano de todas/os. Integra, ainda, informação sobre os mecanismos para a igualdade existentes em Portugal e nos Estados-Membros da União Europeia, bem como em organismos internacionais.

Esta edição está dividida em três capítulos: Contexto Político, Económico, Social e Histórico; A Igualdade e a Situação das Mulheres e Mecanismos para a Igualdade.

A abrangência de todos os temas tratados não permite, por vezes, o aprofundamento que se desejaria, pretendendo-se sobretudo disponibilizar informação de base, abarcando um vasto conjunto de áreas de intervenção. Por outro lado, foi necessário fixar uma data de referência para as actualizações (Maio de 2009) devido à constante dinâmica e volatilidade dos dados seleccionados.

Esta publicação teve o seu início em 1980, aquando da II Conferência Mundial sobre as Mulheres, das Nações Unidas, com uma versão inglesa que se destinava a dar a conhecer internacionalmente a situação em Portugal e uma versão portuguesa com o objectivo de suscitar a reflexão a nível nacional. Desde então, tem vindo a ser regularmente actualizada, aumentada e reeditada.

A CIG continua, desta forma, a apostar na difusão sistemática de informação actualizada sobre questões de género, também como forma de favorecer uma intervenção eficaz no sentido da igualdade e da cidadania.

Women and Men Portugal 2010

"Gender Equality in Portugal - 2009" presents the current situation and developments with regard to equality between women and men in the country. Containing both legislative and statistical information on the various aspects of society, it reflects on the remaining phenomena of inequality that influence the daily lives of every person. It also has information on the mechanisms for equality in Portugal and in the Member States of the European Union, as well as in international organizations.

This edition is divided into three chapters: Political, Economic, Social and Historic Context, Equality and the Status of Women and Mechanisms for Gender Equality.

The broad scope of all the issues dealt with in this booklet does not allow an in-depth analysis of each one of them. The objective of this booklet is primarily to provide basic information, covering a wide range of areas. Moreover, it was necessary to set a reference date for the updates (May 2009) due to the constant turn out and volatility of the selected data.

"Gender Equality in Portugal" was first published in 1980, the same year of the Second World Conference on Women, promoted by the United Nations. It was published in English, to raise international awareness of the situation in Portugal, and in Portuguese in order to raise a reflection at the national level. It has been regularly updated, expanded and reissued ever since then.

In this way, the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG) continues to focus on the systematic dissemination of updated information on gender issues, also as a means to promote effective action towards equality and citizenship.
